Leeds Portrait Studio: The Villiers

I love working in our Portrait Studio just outside Leeds.   Everything I need is there & I can control the look of the images, the lighting…everything really.  Pluss, my coffee machine is there.

Sometimes though, a studio portrait isn’t quite what your after.  You might want something a bit more natural.  Something that’s a bit more relaxed and shows you in a natural environment. A portrait that puts you somewhere more comfortable, like being at home. Or, perhaps a location that says something about you as a person, couple or family.

That’s precisely what the Villiers family wanted.  They have a beautiful family home in Richmondshire, North Yorkshire, that has a little woodland and river at the end of the garden.  It’s their place in nature & it’s beautiful.  I can’t imagine who wouldn’t want a portrait there!

Family Get Together

The days when a family all used to live in the same area are long gone.  Families can be spread all over the county, country or even the world. So, when the family gets together, it’s important. It’s special.

The Villiers family got in touch with me because they were having a get together.  There was a big birthday in the family and they were all heading back to the family home.   I think it’s fair to say that we’re all pretty busy these days and families don’t get the chance to get together as often as we’d like to.  When we do get together, we should record it.  It’s perfect opportunity to capture a special moment in time that would be treasured by the whole family.

Why Have A Family Portrait?

A family portrait is the perfect reminder of a moment in time.  Our walls should be covered in photographs of our families, of our kids as they grow up, of people sadly no longer with us.  Reminders of moments in time when everyone was together.

Portraits make great gifts for distant family members.  I don’t think I’ve ever met a grandparent yet who doesn’t love a photograph of their family – especially the grandkids.   Family portraits are who we are and where we’ve come from.

Why would we hide them away on a hard drive or with the countless other image files clogging our phones up, never to be looked at.  Get them printed. Big! Then get them up on the wall where you can smile at them every time you walk past them.

A Few Words About Printing Photographs

Whether you have Family Portraits in the studio or somewhere else, perhaps the most important thing is to get them printed.  Fill your home with prints of your loved ones.  You don’t need to be on the computer or looking down at your phone to enjoy them that way.

As you walk around your home, there they are, on the wall for you to enjoy whenever you want.  You’ll be surrounded by the people that matter most to you whenever you’re at home.

What’s the point in a hard drive or phone full of hundreds, if not thousands of images, if you never look at them and enjoy them?

What Kind of Family Portrait Session Would You Like?

Family Portraits don’t have to be in the studio.  We can shoot them in your favourite place if you like.  In the garden perhaps?  or you can be like the Villiers family and have them in the woods – carting the gear there was a bit of a challenge, but worth it for the end results!.  I’ve even done some at the Etihad Stadium.  The choice is yours and limited only by imagination!!

If you do opt for the studio, we’ve got a few different styles we can do there too – Fun informal portraits are what we do!
