Portraits of Children

At True North, we love bespoke Fine Art Children’s photography. Photo sessions take place at our studio in Pontefract, West Yorkshire and appointments are available for any day of the week. We understand that sometimes, the weekend is the only option.

The Consultation

Prior to the shoot, we like to have a consultation. Either in person at the studio or over the phone, we can discuss your requirements and talk over the style of portrait and what clothes to bring. 3 different outfits is a good guide. We’ll also go over the different packages with you and if we’re meeting with you in person, we can look over some samples.

Fine Art Portrait Sessions

Sessions take between One and Two hours, it really depends on age and how quickly your child settles in to the studio environment. All children are different and some relax quicker than others. For younger children, we keep a selection of toys on hand and generally spend 20 minutes without a camera, just playing. We’ve found that this really helps to put them at ease. It can also be fun to let them have a go with the camera and take a photo or two themselves.

The aim of the session is to get beautiful, natural images of your children, something that will hang on your wall for a long time to come.

Safety

The shoot will hopefully be fun for your children, but we also take safety seriously. During the session, it’s normally both of us (Mark & Fiona) taking the photographs. Fiona is an ex Primary School Teacher and really knows how to get the best from young children. Also, both of us are fully CRB checked. You can sit back and relax.

After the Portrait Shoot

After about two weeks, your images will be ready to view. We’d prefer for you to come into the studio to see them, as a family, and decide on your favourites. If that’s not possible, we can provide a private, password protected gallery for you. We’ll help you decide which products would be best for you, whether that’s prints in a gorgeous portfolio display box or wall art to look at for years to come. Because we only use the finest printed media and hand made Acrylics, Frames and Canvases, everything is made to order. We take payment for your order at this point, then about 3 weeks later, everything will be ready for collection (We can arrange for delivery for a small charge).

TELL ME ABOUT THE PACKAGES…

Firstly, we charge a session fee to confirm your booking. The Session Fee is £75.00

After the session and once the photographs are ready, we’ll make an appointment for a viewing where you can see the photographs and then choose which package you’d like.

We really wanted to cater to everyone with the different packages that we offered. There are three different print packages that include different numbers and sizes of prints, enlargements, canvases, framed prints and albums. We also offer 3 packages that lean more towards the digital side of things, so you can buy just the digital files along with an unlimited licence to print the images.

In addition, we also have an ‘ à la carte ‘ menu where you can order any number of additional mounted prints, framed prints, canvasses, etc. for family and friends. If you’d like a copy of the ‘ à la carte ‘ price list, please feel free to contact us.

STEP ONE – THE SESSION FEE

A telephone consultation with us so that we can plan your session, and tailor it to your family
A discussion about what style of portrait you’d like and what your children are going to wear
Professional editing and retouching of the photographs from your session
A viewing appointment to help you choose your photographs

STEP TWO: CHOOSE A PACKAGE

Once we’ve finished professionally editing and retouching the photographs from your child’s portrait session, we’ll call you to arrange a viewing appointment – normally in our studio in Pontefract. At this point, you can order any of the print or digital packages and any additional mounted print copies for friends and relatives. We also offer a wide range of canvasses, photo books and framed enlargements too.

FINE ART PRINTS

We offer mounted prints as an add on to any of the packages. All prints are on 300gsm Fine Art Portrait paper, a delicate, ultra matt, 100% cotton rag based paper with a slightly textured feel and archival quality.
