Newburgh Priory Wedding Photographer: Emma & Sam

Cast your mind back to warmer times.  August last year to be precise.

Warnings on the TV about 40 degree days that we can only dream about as we are currently freezing.   Warm evenings. Watching the sun set at 9:30pm.  Greenery & flowers everywhere.  It seems like a world away…but it’ll be back again in a few months.

That was when Emma & Sam tied the knot.  The fabulous Newburgh Priory, in the heart of North Yorkshire was the setting.  Just a stones throw (If you have REALLY strong arms) from the White Horse near Thirsk.

The Big Day

Many moons ago, I photographed the wedding of Emma’s sister, Laura, when she married Oli.  It’s always great to see old friends & their families again and catch up.   They have a lovely young family these days, which will have expanded by now.

So, Emma got ready with her bridesmaids at home, in Alne near York.  Following that it was off to Our Lady & St Benedict RC Church in Ampleforth for the ceremony. Now, it’s a small church and to say they filled it to capacity would be an understatement!

After the ceremony and the longest confetti line in history (we were practically in the next village by the end of it!), everyone made their way to Newburgh Priory.

Newburgh Priory

I did a few weddings at Newburgh Priory in 2022 and it’s fast becoming a favourite venue. The building itself is beautiful – have a look at their website.  Perhaps the greatest feature is that it has a ruin in the grounds that provide a stunning, walled off suntrap of an area. Absolutely perfect for wedding afternoons.  Also, they have a beautiful woodland that hides a slightly overgrown ornamental garden which is like something out of a Victorian novel.

Emma and Sam had a massive Marquee in the gardens, overlooking the lake, with the White Horse in the distance.  The marquee was absolutely perfect.  Beautifully decorated and just right for a Summer evening of dancing and celebrating.

I’m not a writer, so I’ll let the photographs tell the story of the day…
