Saltmarshe Hall with Dani & Olli

When I first met Dani & Olli at the start of the year, I knew that we’d get along well. I was recommended to them by Megan & Mike, who’s wedding I shot back in 2013 which was a good start because Megan & Mike was lovely. Then, we sat and chatted about their wedding although honestly, I think we chatted far more about our geeky mutual interest in Star Wars and enjoyment of really spooky places. A couple of months ago, in June,  we met up at Goldenacre Park in Leeds to make the most of the golden hour in the evening and shot a beautiful Pre Wedding portrait session which was a lot of fun. You can learn more about my engagement shoot. We had a few attempts at the Engagement shoot, including one at Saltmarshe Hall, but the weather wasn’t on our side, I think that it was meant to be though because when we finally got to do the shoot, I loved the results. I should also mention at this point if you’re booking a Pre-Wedding or Portrait session with me over summer, the Golden hour is the last hour before sunset and shooting at that time is how you get the gorgeous evening glow that you can see in the images from their shoot. I’d be more than happy to shoot on an evening if you’d like that ‘early evening warmth’ on your shoot.

Saltmarshe Hall where Dani & Olli got married is amazing. Over the years I’ve got to see many of the grand venues that Yorkshire has to offer (and there are many!!!!), but I’d never heard of Salmarshe Hall before. It’s a gorgeous, family-owned stately home near Howden in East Yorkshire, with 10 acres of grounds to explore including a walled garden, fruit orchards and a massive lawn, it’s a wedding photographer’s paradise! There’s also some old parts of the building that featured on a ‘Most Haunted’ special a while back too if you’re into that sort of thing (I’m not going to lie, of course, we had a bit of a look…). Dani & Olli couldn’t have picked a better venue that suited them both perfectly. Everything about the day was a pleasure to photograph. While Dani and the bridesmaids got ready upstairs, Olli and the ushers prepared the personal touches that really made the day downstairs. It really was the personal touches that made this wedding, things like Olli’s brother, who as part of his best man’s speech, wrote and performed a great song for the couple. Things like that are what make a day special.
