Rachel & Eoin get Married in Robin Hood’s Bay

You may remember last year, when I went to Baslow Edge in Derbyshire to shoot Rachel & Eoin’s pre-wedding shoot, if not, you can see it here. Well, time waits for no one, and their wedding day came around over the Easter weekend.  It’s fair to say that I was really looking forward to shooting this.

Rachel & Eoin were both getting ready at the beautiful Thorpe Hall, just outside Robin Hood’s Bay. What a place. You really couldn’t ask for a better backdrop and a better start to the day. The whole place was full of Bridesmaids, groomsmen, friends and family, which lead to a really warm and relaxed atmosphere. The full English breakfasts flowed and the early morning coffees gradually became glasses of champagne as the ladies got ready. I should say at this point that the main thing I will remember about this day was the laughter. From breakfast right through to the end of the day. Rachel & Eoin both make each other laugh & it’s great to see.

The Groomsmen arrived, bowties were tied (Rachel made them herself for each of the groomsmen), and then the whole party set off down the hill into Robin Hood’s Bay. By this time, my initial fears, due to a foggy drive over the moors at dawn, had been laid to rest and the sun was out & the shades were on. We stopped in a few places to take a few pictures, enjoying the Easter sunshine and then the Eoin & the groomsmen went for a bit of dutch courage while the guests all got themselves to the Swell Cafe. The Swell Cafe in Robin Hood’s Bay is a truly unique venue for a wedding. I shot a wedding there last year and it’s definitely one of my favourites. Huge windows and an auditorium style mean that it’s got great light and every guest can see everything. It also has a terrace with a great view over the cliffs and the North Sea. The wedding ceremony contained more than it’s share of laughter and finished with Rachel & Eoin punching the air. That’s the kind of end to a wedding service that I think should become a tradition.

If you’ve ever been to Robin Hood’s Bay before, you’ll know the hill. It was good that everyone took their time and enjoyed the leisurely climb back to Fylingdales village hall at the top of the hill, where the rest of the festivities were taking place. It’s a good job I was taking photographs as the rest of the evening feels like a bit of a blur. There was just so much going on. Fish & chips (they were sooooooo good!), ice cream, cake contests with celebrity judges, a fantastic musical duo who not only had the best velvet suits I’ve seen, but who were memorably original in their music. I’ve put a link for them at the bottom of the page, you should definitely have a look at their website and play a few of the videos on there (they do travel for weddings too). Then the dancing started. Rachel & Eoin’s first dance was a sight to behold. I’m not sure any photograph could do it justice.

Before you start to look at the photographs, make sure you’re comfortable. There’s a lot of them in this post & to be honest, from this wedding, I could probably write a couple more posts and still have pictures left that I wanted to share. I had a great day with Rachel & Eoin & all of their family and friends. They’re moving to New York shortly. I just hope New York is ready…
